Queensland is set to be transformed by the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games with the tourism industry set to get the biggest boost. The Games, to be held from 4-15 April will be host to more than 6,600 athletes with events to be held not only on the coast but in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville as well.
The first release of tickets for the event sold out extremely quickly with a number of Gold Coast residents remaining unhappy with the ticketing process after not receiving a ticket to some of the much sought-after event such as the opening ceremony and the netball grand final.
For those who decided to submit their volunteer applications for the games mid-last year when over 150,000 volunteers were needed they have now received their rosters and the roles they will be filling during the games.
The 4,000 private security officers that will be required in addition to military and police are currently finalising their training requirements with a number of these people previously unemployed. The Games is providing employment opportunities for those long-term unemployed or who have little or no experience in the workforce which will hopefully have a flow on effect to our economy post-games.
